Episode 1: Outrageous Fortune

Summary

When a pampered dog runs away from a life of luxury, Frank and Lu are asked to track it down. Comedy drama, starring Mark Benton and Jo Joyner

Review

Shetland can keep its horrible people traffickers. Baptiste’s missing sex workers have no place here, thank you very much. What we want in this time slot is a pleasant, escapist whodunnit before we return to the brutal reality of parenting, home learning and mercy dashes to the supermarket. Thankfully, the return of Jo Joyner and Mark Benton provides just that, with a new series of their chalk-and-cheese detective drama (episodes will be airing across the next fortnight), beginning with the case of a kidnapped pampered pooch that is just the right side of ridiculous.

The show is a sizeable hit for BBC Daytime and on the iPlayer and you can see why: it’s charming, slightly arch, solved within 45 minutes and gets to unfold against the gorgeous timber-framed Tudor architecture of Stratford-upon-Avon. What’s not to love?
