Episode 1: Jumping Tracks

Summary

A rich socialite defies her family's wishes to join workers at a dangerous munitions factory, where she meets the women of Blue Shift, including a tough farm girl, a woman running away from her past and a glamour-puss. Second World War drama, starring Meg Tilly, Jodi Balfour, Charlotte Hegele and Ali Liebert.

Review

Bomb Girls is set in a Second World War Canadian munitions factory but it’s such a formulaic drama that, high explosives notwithstanding, it could easily be any old soap, any old where.

A clutch of female stereotypes does men’s work while the lads are at war. It’s dirty and deadly, but the Bomb Girls are polished and wear lovely clothes. The dialogue never rises above the likes of “This world we live in… anything could happen, anything”, but there is an unintentionally hilarious scene that’s supposed to show the dangers of not paying attention. And you can always admire the lovely cardigans.
