Summary
The detective is drawn into Newcastle's underworld to discover the identity of a murder victim found dead in the river, with no clue as to who he is apart from a distinctive drugs wrapper. She discovers the dead man had ties to some very dangerous people, many of whom may have wanted him dead, while a witness's testimony links the case to a remote farm where a murder took place 13 years previously. The connection brings Kenny's past back to haunt him, as he was responsible for seeing the perpetrator convicted

Detective Chief Inspector Vera Stanhope (Brenda Blethyn) stares fixedly at an awful lot of suspects after a drug addict is found dead in a stream having been bashed on the head.
It’s what Vera’s good at, though everyone’s very rude to her in a way they’d never get away with in real life. “We’re done here,” says one potential witness who stalks away from Vera and her amiable sidekick Aiden. Oi, you, don’t walk off like that! This is the police you’re talking to!
It’s a complicated case, first shown in 2017, that harks back to a 13-year-old murder at a creepy and remote farmhouse that has uncomfortable associations for detective Kenny Lockhart, and a possible miscarriage of justice.
