Episode 13: The X Factor

Summary

Thousands of aspiring pop stars turned up at the auditions, 120 battled it out at boot camp and, after the drama of the six-chair challenge, the best of those made it through to the judges' houses. Now the competition really begins as the final 12 perform live for the judges and millions of viewers at home. Each of them will be hoping they have what it takes to make an impression and stay on the show right up to the final just before Christmas. Simon Cowell mentors the girls (Emily Middlemass, Sam Lavery and Gifty Louise), Nicole Scherzinger looks after the boys (Matt Terry, Freddy Parker and Ryan Lawrie), Sharon Osbourne has the over-25s (Saara Aalto, Relley C and Honey G) and Louis Walsh is in charge of the groups (Bratavio, 5 After Midnight and Brooks Way). Hosted by Dermot O'Leary.

Review

It’s been far too long since Dermot O’Leary did a little dance, had a cheeky twirl, and gave his microphone a swing before telling us our Saturday night “starts right here” on ITV. Tonight marks the return of the live X Factor shows, though, so Dermot is back to keep us company every weekend evening until Christmas.

The festive season is, of course, when one of the sacrificial singing lambs (who’ve been given the annual makeover for the live stages) will win the series and aim for chart-topping glory. And they’ve got so much to look forward to. Just ask last year’s winner. If you can remember who on earth it was, that is.
