Episode 25: The X Factor

Summary

Last week, Sam Lavery and Ryan Lawrie found themselves in the bottom two and the final vote went to Sharon Osbourne - and after it seemed like she was going to send home Scots singer Ryan, she seemed to change her mind at the last second and eliminate North East lass Sam instead. After that drama, the remaining contestants are going to the movies - or, to be more accurate, they're singing classic songs from the movies. Expect the usual confrontations and bickering as Simon Cowell, Nicole Scherzinger, Louis Walsh and the aforementioned Sharon fiercely defend their remaining acts and provide verdicts on each performance. Dermot O'Leary calls the shots.

Review

Choosing “too cool for school” judges proved to be The X Factor’s biggest error in 2015 and now it feels as though they’ve not learnt a thing, opting to bring back more mature mentors and poach performers from the local sixth form talent contest instead. It’s no wonder they’ve been struggling to keep up with Strictly in the ratings.

And as their dancing rivals head for Blackpool on BBC1, ITV’s singing sensations will have to up the ante. Perhaps Dermot could crack out a few of his smooth moves? We’re still longing for the day he does a Caroline Flack and signs up for that spray tan and sequins.
