Episode 1: Season 1003, Episode 1
Summary
Jamie Oliver demonstrates Autumn recipes. In the first episode, he gets creative with savoy cabbage, making a cheesy pasta dish with farfalle, bacon and pine nuts. Back in the garden, he picks his home-grown sweetcorn to combine with beans, breadcrumbs, herbs and feta for a smoky sweetcorn burger topped with hob-charred cob
Review
Jane Rackham
For those of us brought up eating cabbage that had been boiled for hours, Jamie Oliver’s suggestion of using in-season Savoy cabbage in a fresh and oozy pasta dish is a revelation. “Woo-hoo, look at this!” he says enthusiastically as he tucks into a plateful — amazing, considering that it’s raining heavily and his greenhouse is leaking.
The chef is preparing simple dishes for autumn (I know, it doesn’t feel as if we’ve even had summer yet), including a juicy sweetcorn burger, toasted cheese and onion soup and a heavenly tomato galette. He also demonstrates how to propagate your favourite variety of tomato from its seeds.
