Episode 3: The Prince's Master Crafters: The Next Generation

Summary

Tutor Rezia Wahid guides the students through a series of weaving challenges, before they go on to create a fabric of their own design

Review

The “hero shot” of participants striding towards the countryside barn/tent/workshop (delete as applicable) has become quite the TV trope. But here the competitive element is downplayed in favour of learning intricate skills — and endangered ones at that.

The task looming large for them this week is weaving, with expert Rezia Wahid asking for examples of plain, twill (double thread) and “freestyle”. And though her demo looks fiendishly difficult, all her students soon master warp and weft. Meanwhile, host Jim Moir celebrates his Scottish heritage by watching the creation of his own kilt and sporran.
