Episode 5: M-Corp

Summary

The crew discovers their employer Jupiter Mining Corporation has been bought out by a company and only products made by them are visible to their employees. Sci-fi comedy, starring Craig Charles, Danny John-Jules, Chris Barrie and Robert Llewellyn.

Review

It’s Lister’s birthday and if the onset of old age is not bad enough for Craig Charles’s lovable slob, the ship’s computers get taken over by the rapacious M Corp, a software company that wants to charge for everything – even people’s thoughts.

As our dreadlocked hero copes with a world where he cannot see anything (even his crew mates) that is not M Corp-branded, we are left to reflect on the control freak multinationals of our own society. The satire is clever, punchy and spot on; but, in the nimble hands of scriptwriter Doug Naylor and the tried-and-tested brilliance of this ensemble, it’s also very funny.
