Episode 2: Fleabag

Summary

Haunted by memories of her dead best friend, dumped by her emotionally fragile boyfriend, and now desperately trying to sell her stolen goods, Fleabag attempts to rekindle romantic fires to distract her from the mayhem of her life. Comedy, written by and starring Phoebe Waller-Bridge

Review

After its remarkable triumph at the Emmy awards, these repeats offer a chance to revisit series one of the comfortingly tangy sitcom, first shown in 2016. In this second episode Phoebe Waller-Bridge draws us closer to her dishevelled alter ego.

Fleabag’s grief for her dead best friend is manifesting itself in an indifference towards relatives and lovers that you suspect was there already, and she tries to sell the sculpture she nicked from her awful godmother (Olivia Colman). We, of course, cheer her on, as Waller-Bridge’s perfectly timed asides to camera make us privy to all the dark, dirty thoughts that are no worse than our own.
