Episode 42: Keep On Running - Part Two

Summary

Part two of two. Ruth has an interview to determine whether she will be fully reinstated as a doctor, but despite appearing confident, she buckles under the pressure when a stroke victim is brought into the ED. A hung-over Linda clashes with Tess over management styles, and a run-in with a grieving patient prompts her to reassess her attitude. Meanwhile, Jeff continues to mentor troubled teen Karl despite everyone considering him a lost cause. Starring Georgia Taylor

Review

Much of the action in this episode takes place in the no-man’s-land outside the doors of the hospital, where ambulances and patients mingle over a fine carpet of Zoe’s discarded cigarette ends. Here, Dylan stations himself as a kind of semi-detached diagnostician, unable to return to the ED (he’s too cut up about his part in Polly’s demise), but unable to walk away either.

He has what he believes to be vital insights into a young patient, a boy burnt in an explosion but in truth suffering from something far more serious, the lingering effects of Casualty’s most lethal condition: families hiding secrets.
