Summary
Haley is determined to follow the advice in her parenting books, and in the last-ever episode, all the members of the Pritchett-Dunphy-Tucker clan discover that saying goodbye is hard.
Haley is determined to follow the advice in her parenting books, and in the last-ever episode, all the members of the Pritchett-Dunphy-Tucker clan discover that saying goodbye is hard.
After 250 episodes it’s time for a big goodbye. OK, so Modern Family never quite regained the genius of its early years, when it won the Emmy for best sitcom five years in a row. But it can still deliver a few belly-laughs and at least one lump-in-the-throat per episode.
There are more lumps than laughs in this final finale but several characters get great send-offs, including Phil overestimating his bond to his father-in-law one last time. He and Claire are seeing all their kids fly the nest (Haley: “We still need to box up all our baby stuff, our linens, our book…”) and turning the page on, as Claire wistfully describes it, “25 years of uninterrupted crazy”.
As Mitch and Cam head off to the backwoods of Missouri there are tearful hugs, then more hugs, then more.
