A new series of Grand Designs begins with a typical story of a dream, plenty of ambition, not much money, high hopes and shining enthusiasm – which of course turns into a nightmare of delays, setbacks and years of patience.
But, oh, it’s worth it. Prepare to wilt with envy at nice couple John and Noreen’s gorgeous tree house, a boxy modernist fairy tale that peers through lush woodland into the beautiful Gloucestershire countryside. You wouldn’t know it was sandwiched between a supermarket car park and a Methodist chapel in the pretty town of Dursley.
As a child, local lad John would peer into this little patch of loveliness with its canopy of trees, and swoon. He and Noreen bought the site for £85,000, eventually got planning permission after the local council’s initial reluctance, and set to work. Only for everything to grind to a halt.
Of course Cassandra himself, Kevin McCloud, is on hand to wring his hands.
There are no live broadcasts scheduled for this show. But it is available via the streaming provider below.
