The Love Mobile, guest-starring Kenneth Cope and Maggie Ollerenshaw, kicked off the first episode of series 18, broadcast between April and June 1997. Another nine episodes followed, including Deviations with Davenport, guest-starring Jack Smethurst, and Brian Wilde's final appearance as Foggy in A Sidecar Named Desire. A 60-minute 1997 Christmas special saw the first appearance of Truly, played by Frank Thornton.
