Episode 1: Trump's War on the Border

Summary

Documentary assessing the impact of the first months of Donald Trump's presidency on life on the US-Mexican border, witnessing the effect that his controversial campaign pledge to build a wall along it has had on those who live and work on the frontline. Featuring contributions from locals directly affected by the possibility of a wall, as well as access to members of the Department for Homeland Security's customs and border patrols as they try to combat illegal immigration and drug smuggling.

Review

The vicious US election campaign of 2016 could be summed up in three words: build the wall. What began life as a promise by Trump to build a “35 to 45ft high” border wall between Mexico and the United States became a rallying cry for his supporters – and for his detractors, a neat summation of his exclusionary politics.

This documentary meets those who live and work on the US-Mexico border, including some of the 46,000 government agents who police it, and the vigilantes who take it upon themselves to catch illegal migrants. The views we hear make it clear that the issue is far from black and white – but it is predictably divisive.
