Review

Mental illness can ambush anyone. Tim Rhys-Evans is the choirmaster who achieved huge success with Only Men Aloud! In 2013 his career was on a high and he was awarded an MBE by the Queen. But internally he was crumbling. In a programme previously shown on BBC Wales, Tim gives an insightful account of his depression and suicide attempts. “The thing about mental illness is that it’s a devious little s**t,” he says, “this ugly destructive, devious, clever creature.”

He was convinced he wasn’t depressed (“I don’t feel sad or tearful, I just don’t want to live”) but luckily his GP and a mental health crisis team knew better.
