Summary

Engineer Rob Bell explores the history of the design and construction of the Tyne Bridge, which links Newcastle and Gateshead, discovering many believe that it was the inspiration for the Sydney Harbour Bridge. He also finds out why the bridge is so revered by Geordies, not just as a way to cross the river, but because it was built to keep shipbuilders employed and their skills alive during the dark days of the 1920s recession
