In Season 6, a body is discovered on the Northumberland moor, a young man's body is found in an area notorious for illicit teenage gatherings, and two murders occur at a country house.
A body is caught in a trawler’s nets and brought into a North East fishing port. When Vera lumbers to the crime scene she learns the victim has been missing for weeks.
The last mystery in the fourth series, first shown in 2016, calls on Vera (Brenda Blethyn) to break the bonds that bind a typically tightly knit fishing community, where old enmities die hard. The dead man, a lonely widower, was implicated in a fish-market fire that led to bad blood with another family in the town.
It’s an atmospheric tale of revenge and jealousy, and good use is made of offbeat locations, like the windswept South Gare on Teesside.
