Summary

Det Chief Inspector Vera Stanhope is particularly thoughtful after a grievous loss. But life, and death, go on – the body of a young man is found at a remote beauty spot, trussed up in bin bags.
The discovery takes Vera (Brenda Blethyn) and her little team to a fair, where they must try to pierce the clannish silence of the fairground folk. Everyone she talks to is shifty, including the victim’s estranged mum and stepfather. Meanwhile, news and photos of the murder have leaked on the internet. “Bloody social media,” says Vera, a devout Luddite.
It’s another chewy mystery that probes damaged lives and guilty, rotting, secrets.
