Episode 31: Casualty

Summary

Ethan treats a pregnant woman who was rushed to the ED after her waters broke at a bus stop. However, as he learns more about her, he realises she is related to his brother's killer. Elsewhere, Iain jokes with Sam about her failure to ask Dylan out for a meal. She then admits that she is worried about Dylan's alcoholism, and wants to help him.

Review

Something’s up when the “Previously…” montage features events from last July: Ethan’s year of tumult is about to reach an uneasy end, in the form of a classic dramatic coincidence. George Rainsford does well with yet another demand for a long close-up of Ethan experiencing shocked realisation, and his personal involvement also helps the drama get over what initially looks like a heavy-handed story about a heartless housing officer and a vulnerable tenant.

In the B plot of the week, a crushed ex attends the wedding of the man she still loves, with complicated consequences. And before that, Casualty’s diligence in tackling new public health crises continues, as a woman arrives with a knife through her hand: just the latest victim of stubborn avocado stones.
