Episode 35: Casualty

Summary

Iain and Sam receive a sharp greeting from unconventional new operations manager Jan Jennings. They are then called to a dramatic incident in a storm drain, and with the water rising to waist height, the paramedics are forced to make an impossible decision. Ethan and Connie are at odds over the low staff levels resulting from Bea's resignation, and Duffy is concerned by Charlie's long hours.

Review

Bea Kinsella, who flounced out of the emergency department after nearly killing a patient, returns because, in one of those Casualty coincidences, her dad’s being treated there for a broken wrist.

But everyone, even Ethan, is keen for her to return, particularly her pal Rashid Masum, who pleads Bea’s case with “she’s a better doctor than me”. Rashid, even I’m a better doctor than you.

And there’s a new paramedic boss, Jan Jenning, who introduces herself to her staff of two, Sam and Iain, with five of the most terrible words in the English language: “I speak as I find.”

Her first test is backing up her tiny cohort when they rescue a teenager from a storm drain.
