Episode 44: Casualty

Summary

Alicia plucks up her courage to tell the police that she has been raped. Eddie accompanies the paramedics who are called out to treat Jon's wife after she suffers serious burns - and is arrested on his return to the hospital. Bea leaves to make a fresh start in Paris, and Alicia receives an unwelcome visit that has devastating consequences. Last in the series.

Review

When Casualty decides someone must suffer, then stand back and prepare for carnage. Take Alicia, she’s finally found the strength to report Eddie’s attack to the police. But her sterling character counts for nothing when the full artillery of the scriptwriters is trained upon her.

In a heck of a strong episode full of harrowing moments (largely thanks to efforts to save a woman with terrible burns), Alicia (Chelsea Halfpenny, who’s excellent) must marshal all her defences.

There’s a tough but kind interview at the police station with a sympathetic, thorough police officer, and the story of that night – told largely through astonishingly comprehensive CCTV footage – slowly unfurls. By the end, lives are in pieces.
