Day Seven BBC1 - 1

Summary

Sue Barker presents live coverage of the seventh day from the All England Club, featuring the fourth round of the men's and ladies' singles competitions. Eventual champion Novak Djokovic got proceedings under way on Centre Court on day seven last year with a typically dominant 6-2, 6-4, 6-2 victory over 17th seed Cristian Garin, before 2018 title-winner Angelique Kerber ended the run of teenager Coco Gauff with a 6-4, 6-4 triumph

Review

In years gone by, tennis on Wimbledon’s middle Sunday has been the product of a first week plagued by wet weather. In the championships’ 145-year history there has been play just five times on that Sunday, but now the organisers have done away with the traditional rest day, citing better grass-court maintenance capabilities and a willingness to make the start of the second week — dubbed Manic Monday — a little less congested.

At press time it remains to be seen who will top the bill on the order of play, which will be dominated by the fourth round. But one thing that will happen is a ceremony marking 100 years since Centre Court was built.
