Crisp and blunt Nurse Patsy Mount, the new arrival at Nonnatus House, is a bit too brusque and straightforward for Poplar’s expectant mums. Her tactless comments about big babies and big mothers don’t go down at all well at the clinic. But Patsy’s breezy manner of course hides a secret heartache as she’s haunted by the ghosts of terrible childhood experiences. You’ll be a wet wreck after Patsy finally admits why she’s so apparently aloof and careless of other’s feelings.

It’s another episode that will batter on the door of your heart and demand to be let in, even as you try to resist. There is some light relief, though, as pert Trixie agrees to go on a date with the hunky new curate – he’s more attainable that her ideal man, Rock Hudson (oh dear). The young cleric even strips to his vest in a crisis. Well, hello!
