In Season 3, Chummy struggles to adjust to life as a housewife and mother, Trixie's feathers are ruffled when Jenny is promoted, and a routine check-up leads to heartache for Shelagh.
After last week’s traumatic episode we are given little time to recover as we face yet another story that will tear out a tiny piece of your heart then throw it in your face. The midwives are called in to care for Sally, a young woman with Down’s syndrome (or “mongolism” as it’s unflinchingly referred to here, of course) who lives in an institution for young men and women with learning disabilities.
She and another inmate, Jacob, who has cerebral palsy, are special friends, but just how special becomes apparent very quickly. Soon the air is thick with unpleasant accusations. Back at Nonnatus House grumpy Sister Evangelina is more curmudgeonly than ever as her friends make plans for a celebration.
