In Season 3, Chummy struggles to adjust to life as a housewife and mother, Trixie's feathers are ruffled when Jenny is promoted, and a routine check-up leads to heartache for Shelagh.
Sister Julienne and Trixie are called to Holloway Prison to dispense their midwifery services to a bunch of snarling, pregnant prisoners. “I’m ever so sore downstairs,” claims one, while another is loudly disruptive and picks on a heavily pregnant mum-to-be Stella (guest star EastEnders’ Lacey Turner), who smugly talks of her “fiancé”. “You’re a stuck up cah!” yells the ruffian, as the women get into an almighty scrap. But the midwives take everything in their stride, even tutting about the women’s lack of proper care.
Eventually, saintly Sister Julienne (Jenny Agutter) takes Stella’s plight personally. Meanwhile, on the outside, Sheila is worried about her “cycle”. No, she doesn’t mean her bike.
