Due to the star system of the time, Christopher Reeve received third billing in his debut as Superman in 1978, trailing Marlon Brando and Gene Hackman in the opening titles. Yet for many of us, his Man of Steel has never been bettered. For proof, consider a moment in Lois Lane’s apartment that requires neither a costume change nor special effects. Reeve simply straightens his posture, removes his glasses and lowers his voice, and the transformation from Clark Kent to Superman is complete.
Afterwards the 9pm film showing, at 10:15pm there’s a repeat of a documentary charting Reeve’s life following the riding accident he suffered in 1995 and, at 11:15pm, a 1982 Parkinson featuring the actor.
