Episode 2: Cube-Shaped Desserts and an Occasion Showpiece

Summary

Tom Allen and Liam Charles present as the pastry chefs are challenged to make a cube-shaped dessert, with sharp edges from every angle, and magical confections that look exactly like mushrooms but taste anything but - all in just three and a half hours. And that's just their first task. For their second, judges Benoit Blin and Cherish Finden ask them to create a heroes and villains-themed showpiece adorned with 160 macarons. Which team will rise to the occasion?

Review

Let’s draw a veil over Tom Allen dressed up as Fanny Cradock and instead focus on some heavenly sweet treats, including a cube-shaped dessert and some that look like mushrooms. “Holy moly! This is to die for!” squeals Cherish Finden excitedly about one offering. But others are criticised for heavy-handed flavourings, boring tastes and imprecision.

For the showstopper, they must create a tower of 160 macarons on the theme of heroes and villains. A shocked silence descends when one of the almost-finished structures shatters, sending macarons flying everywhere. But you’ll really gasp later – because the disasters don’t end there.
