Episode 6: An Enchanted Land

Summary

Paul Murton explores lochs close to the densely populated Central Belt, beginning on the banks of the Lake of Menteith and visiting Loch Ard, Loch Arklet, Loch Katrine and Loch Achray, before ending by climbing Ben Venue in the Trossachs

Review

When the sun shines on the Trossachs, it really is stunning. And it’s definitely beaming down on Paul Murton as he embarks on his final jaunt, from the Lake of Menteith to Ben Venue. This part of central Scotland, only an hour from Glasgow, has drawn visitors and famous names for centuries, from Mary, Queen of Scots to Sir Walter Scott.

And it’s also an excuse for Murton to take the weight off his feet for a bit, whether at the helm of a steamer that’s been weaving its away across Loch Katrine since 1899, or nervously admitting he’s only just passed his motorbike test. In his quiet way, he’s been a great ambassador for the nation.
