A journey through eight decades of music from Academy Award- winning films, performed by the Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra under conductor Keith Lockhart
In 2019, the Vienna Concert Hall hosted a sparkling concert celebrating eight decades of classic film scores, starting (where better?) over the rainbow with The Wizard
of Oz, and galloping across time with music from Casablanca, Jaws, Out of Africa, Schindler’s List, The Shape of Water and Black Panther.
I’ll be tuning in for a 70th-birthday tribute to composer Gabriel Yared, the evening’s guest of honour. His enchanting, Oscar-winning score for The English Patient (1996) is one I often return to. Keith Lockhart, stalwart of Radio 2’s Friday Night Is Music Night, conducts the ORF Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra.
