Summary
"Teen Mom" is a spin-off series of "16 and Pregnant", a reality television series that followed the lives of several teenage pregnant girls. "Teen Mom" chronicles the lives of four of the original teenagers as they try to cope with their first year of motherhood. The series also explores their relationships with their new child, with friends, family and the fathers of their children. The four teenage mothers are Maci Bookout, Farrah Abraham, Catelynn Lowell and Amber Portwood. They face difficult decisions like marriage, adoption, finances, graduating high school, college, getting a job and setting up their new family. Maci is mother of Bentley: she is smart, athletic and popular at her school in Chattanooga, Tennessee. She is engaged to Ryan, but their relationship is sometimes strained. She wants to be a journalist and write a book about teenage pregnancy. Farrah is mother of Sophia. Sophia's father Derek was killed in a car crash, so Farrah is a single mother living in Iowa. She tries to maintain a social life, but she struggles emotionally after Derek's death and her complicated relationship with her mother exacerbates matters. Catelynn is mother to Carolyn whom she placed for adoption. She tries to get back to a normal life after Brandon and Theresa adopt Carly. She lives and is engaged to Carly's father Tyler, but the relationship is anything but solid. Amber has a daughter, Leah. She is engaged to Gary and lives in Indiana. She is the most controversial of the four as she constantly battles with Gary, leading to police involvement. The pilot episode attracted 2.1 million viewers and the series one finale was watched by 3.6 million people. The episode where Amber punches Gary pulled in over 5.5 million viewers.
