So he’s rock climbing to a sacred high place in Saudi Arabia, free diving with a mesmerising shoal of mobula rays in the Sea of Cortez, tracking gorillas in Gabon and exclaiming at the sheer number of bears hunting salmon in Kamchatka.
The point is clear: conservation is vital to protect the pristine wild areas of the planet we know about; but so is exploration, to discover and identify what other ones may still be out there. As he says, visiting wildernesses reminds you of what’s still to lose, and what’s worth fighting for.
