Review

As a lifelong fan of Star Trek, it’s no wonder that I fell in love with the glorious Galaxy Quest. The 1999 fantasy comedy in which a group of aliens mistake the cast of a Trek-style TV show for actual space explorers was a love letter to nerds like me who wished that those painted plywood and plastic Enterprise sets could somehow be made real.
Two decades on, sci-fi no longer exists in some shameful cult corner of television and, as Star Trek: the Next Generation actor Brent Spiner points out, “the nerds have inherited the earth”.

Here, Protector crewmates including Tim Allen and Sigourney Weaver discuss the movie’s enduring appeal, as well as the power of fandom, the loss of Alan Rickman and the status of a mooted revival. By Grabthar’s Hammer, it’s great.
