Summary

"The Food Hospital" examines the science behind using food as medicine. Individuals suffering from a range of medical conditions and symptoms are prescribed food treatment programmes to see if they can be cured by the things they eat. Before being assigned particular foods, patients can have detailed consultations with Shaw Somers, a specialist consultant gastrointestinal and bariatric surgeon; Lucy Jones, a dietician at the Whittington Hospital in north London; and GP Dr Giovanni Miletto. In the first episode, the experts meet a woman suffering from polycystic ovary syndrome, with symptoms such as weight gain, fertility problems and excessive body and facial hair; and Dr Pixie McKenna from "Embarrassing Bodies" finds out if chocolate can help reduce high blood pressure. The series premiered on Channel 4 in October 2011.
