Summary
The farmer and conservationist tries to relocate two polar bears from Sweden to his wildlife park in Suffolk, after the park they lived in was shut down. They can't be released into the wild as they've only ever lived in captivity and wouldn't survive. Jimmy and his team build Europe's largest polar bear reserve, while the polar bears' journey from Sweden goes well - until disaster strikes
Review
Jane Rackham
Jimmy and Michaela Doherty didn’t originally intend for their Suffolk farm to be a wildlife refuge, but it has gone on to become home to an extraordinary collection of animals. When the couple found out that a Swedish zoo was closing and that polar bear Ewa and her cub Miki needed a new home, they made the momentous decision to take them in. Born in captivity, there was no way that the bears could be released into the wild.
It was a massive undertaking, as we see in this three-part series (first shown last year), which charts the project from Jimmy’s first meeting with Ewa through the building work to the bears’ arrival in the UK. It’s not without its distressing moments.
