Episode 3: The Reporter

Summary

Leslie is excited when local newspaper reporter Shauna Malwae-Tweep shows an interest in the pit, and frantically tries to ensure her story shows the project in a flattering light. However, her hopes for some positive publicity are dealt a blow when city planner Mark gets involved. Comedy, starring Amy Poehler

Review

The big problem with this mid-level US sitcom is that it’s hard to find anyone to root for. I think we’re meant to be on the side of febrile deputy director of parks and recreation Leslie Knope (Amy Poehler) and, thanks to Poehler, she has her moments. But by and large Leslie is a whiny annoyance. She’s been compared to David Brent, but Brent had a fundamental vulnerability that saved him from being a bore. Leslie is just needy and brittle.

Yet Parks and Recreation isn’t a lost cause. There’s a deranged public meeting when Leslie introduces her park plans to the local community. And it isn’t happy.
