Episode 7: Week 4

Summary

We are down to 13 couples, and no-one wants to be the unlucky one to leave the competition this weekend. The competition is intensifying and the hard work is taking its toll, as each couple tries their hardest to deliver a routine worthy of praise from the judges. Who will impress, and who will slip by the wayside? Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman host.

Review

Like cream, the better dancers are starting to rise to the surface: Alexandra Burke’s scorching paso doble confirmed her as a real contender to lift the glitterball trophy (getting a total of 36 points at such an early stage of the competition as well as a standing ovation from the judges!).

Equally astonishing in week two was Jonnie Peacock’s fierce jive, which was humbling in its energy and precision, while both Aston Merrygold and Debbie McGee have constantly impressed on the dancefloor. Strictly Come Dancing fans who drew any of this lot in their office sweepstakes must be jigging round their living rooms in delight at having picked such high scorers.

Of course it takes more than good dance moves alone to win the hearts and minds of Strictly voters. An awkward post-performance chat in the Clauditorium or with Zoë Ball on It Takes Two (weekdays BBC2) can put people off, while a strong fan base and stirring “Strictly Journey” can keep a celeb hot to trot for weeks.
