The Lazarus team, whose job it is to avert global catastrophe by turning back time to stop disaster before it happens, have terrorist Rebrov (an electrifying Tom Burke) in their sights. He was once part of the team himself, so what turned him round? Writer Joe Barton, obeying that old saying about the devil having all the best tunes, gives Rebrov some choice dialogue. “They sacrifice life to destroy death,” he says of the team — a neat encapsulation of the main issue at hand.

It’s one that’s being acutely faced by George (Paapa Essiedu) after a shocking accident. He may be new to the team, but he’s already baulking at its strictures. And spare a thought for team-mate Archie (Anjli Mohindra), who has to relive a nuclear attack Groundhog Day-style — Bill Murray never had that kind of problem.
