Familiar faces will forge new alliances to bolster their strategic chances at survival...while new characters will emerge to challenge the balance of power in season six of the HBO series.
With the epic HBO TV spectacular now overtaking George RR Martin’s book series for season six, even the most ardent fans won’t know a lot about what’s coming next.
But internet-savvy Throners won’t have escaped speculation over whether Jon Snow – last seen being stabbed by the Castle Black mutineers – really is dead. Another narrative near-certainty is that mother-from-hell Cersei (Lena Headey) will probably devise some vile punishments for the High Sparrow (Jonathan Pryce) and his religious sect that forced her to undergo the horrific naked walk of shame at the end of the last series.
Elsewhere: well, it’s more death, sex and fabulous dragons, plus a twist involving the mystical Melisandre (the Red Woman of the episode’s title). Oh, and there are a few new faces aiming to add to the 12 (count ’em) Emmys the show won in 2015. These include Max von Sydow taking over the role of the Three-Eyed Raven, Borgen star Pilou Asbaek as the cunning and ruthless mariner Euron Greyjoy and Richard E Grant, of all people.
