Summary
Drama series set in the 1950s, in the Cambridgeshire village named Grantchester.
Drama series set in the 1950s, in the Cambridgeshire village named Grantchester.
You’ll often find weddings being crashed mid-service in dramas but rarely has a TV baptism been disrupted by an angry intruder. This, though, is what happens here just as vicar Will has assembled two beaming parents (guest stars Miles Jupp and Polly Frame) and a very well-behaved newborn around the church font. The interruption comes from an angry young man who claims that he’s the child’s rightful father, but no sooner have Will and Geordie started investigating than a local adoption agent is murdered.
What follows is an affecting exploration of shame and stigma in a case that exposes not only some dark family secrets, but also the often narrow-minded attitudes of the era.
