Summary
Drama series set in the 1950s, in the Cambridgeshire village named Grantchester.
Drama series set in the 1950s, in the Cambridgeshire village named Grantchester.
It’s always said that affairs of church and state should remain at a distance, but the village is buzzing with by-election gossip and vicar Will can’t help but get fired up. It’s entrepreneurial candidate Maurice St Martin (played with a cocky strut by Ian Hislop’s son Will) who’s earned his ire, with one husting getting particularly heated.
Moral compasses are also being scrutinised at the police station, where an accusation of “gross indecency” has been made against Leonard. The resulting debate about whether homosexuality should be decriminalised is a little on the nose, but the sight of our poor church verger being so affected by the fallout is sure to leave right-minded viewers feeling angry.
