Episode 1: Season 1, Episode 1
Summary
Part one of two. Exploring the world of deep-sea killers, revealing mysterious creatures with the use of CGI, including the anglerfish, which lures prey with its glowing spine. Giant prehistoric fish the dunkleosteus is brought back to life with a mechanical bite force test, while adventurer Steve Backshall uncovers the secrets of the stoplight loose-jaw, Biologist Jennifer Hoyal Cuthill also reveals the terrifying thalassotitan, an evolved predator that moved from land to sea over millions of years
Review

No preview was available, but this sounds like the stuff of nightmares. The press information opens with, “Lurking in the dark abyss, at depths of over 1,000 metres or more, are giants that are rarely seen…until now.”
Tonight, Steve Backshall learns about the wonderfully named stoplight loosejaw, while a second programme tomorrow features giant squids with three hearts and the curious cookiecutter shark. The latter may sound cute, but it’s been known to attack killer whales.
