Question of Sport

  • Entertainment

Quiz show featuring two teams of sports stars or enthusiasts answering questions on their own and other sports. Each team has a resident captain and they are each joined by two sporting guests. It premiered on BBC One in 1970 with David Vine as the host and boxer Henry Cooper and rugby union star Cliff Morgan as team captains. Vine hosted the show for five series before being replaced by David Coleman. A number of well-known sporting figures have been captains over the years, including former England footballer Emlyn Hughes, former England rugby union player Bill Beaumont, jockey Willie Carson, cricketing legend Ian Botham and former snooker world champion John Parrott. Coleman retired from the show in 1997 and was replaced by current host Sue Barker. Jockey Frankie Dettori took over from Parrott in 2002 and was replaced two years later by former England rugby union star Matt Dawson. After a brief spell of guest captains, former England cricketer Phil Tufnell became the permanent replacement for former Rangers striker Ally McCoist in 2008.
