Episode 1: I Am Victoria

Summary

Female-led drama anthology series exploring the experiences of three women in moments that are emotionally raw, thought-provoking and personal. The first episode focuses on a woman who seems to have a perfect family, job and home. However, something is wrong and the pressure she is under is becoming unbearable. Dominic Savage's powerful drama charts how Victoria struggles with her mental health and observes the effect that has on her life and immediate family. With Suranne Jones and Ashley Walters

Review

Victoria (Suranne Jones) works very hard to have a perfect life: from her obsession with cushions being displayed neatly on the bed and what her children wear to her frenetic early morning beauty routine and her brittle attempts to put on a happy face to her family. Running her successful property business clearly puts her under tremendous pressure but something else is wrong. She flies off the handle at her loving husband (Ashley Walters), talks (well, snarls) at herself in the mirror or becomes hysterical over a dropped plate.

Much of the dialogue is improvised in the first of Dominic Savage’s trilogy so it feels real and very raw while Suranne Jones is absolutely magnificent as a woman on the edge who needs help but won’t admit it. Whether you’ve experienced anything like it or not, you’ll feel her pain in every scene as well as her despairing family’s impotence to deal with her mental health issues.
