Summary
"Cook County Jail" is a three-part series offering an insight into what goes on inside the largest single site county prison in the United States. The Illinois-based facility houses almost 10,000 men and women, even though it was only built to contain 4,000. The series reveals how inmates can fashion a knife out of a shaving razor and a toothbrush, why it's dangerous for loose toothpaste caps to be floating around, and why the inmates' jumpsuits come in several different colours. The programme also exposes the fragile mental health of those prisoners who were once receiving treatment at mental health clinics, but ended up incarcerated.
