Episode 2: Night Finds You

Summary

Caspar's autopsy reveals the gruesome details of his demise, and Ray and Ani wonder if it is related to his fondness for prostitutes. Meanwhile, Frank looks into what might have happened to his missing fortune

Review

The missing person case has now become a murder investigation – bringing our three cops round the body of corrupt city official Ben Caspar, who was found dumped at the end of the last episode. There’s a long way to go but already it’s clear that Colin Farrell’s Ray Velcoro is on the dodgy side and Rachel McAdams’s stressed-out sheriff’s detective Ani Bezzerides has issues (her hippy-dippy narcissist dad runs a cult organisation called The Lord People after all).

Taylor Kitsch’s highway patrol officer Paul Woodrugh’s relationship with his girlfriend also comes to a head in a complex drama that’s clearly unafraid to take its time and show a down and dirty LA rarely seen on TV, one as golden and sour as Velcoro’s beloved whiskey (and about as bad for you). There’s also a shocking plot twist at the end that will have you jumping out of your seat.
