Jack Seale
Kate Bush can’t be rubber-stamped with a jaunty cut-and-paste-job. The good news is you can safely dim the lights and hold your breath, because this film really gets it.
It’s a simple chronology, from the 15-year-old who, impossibly, had already written The Man with the Child in His Eyes, to the leotarded waif hypnotising Britain with Wuthering Heights and the complete, singular artist who now only appears when she feels like it because, in the wise words of author Neil Gaiman, she has “the willingness to be quiet until it’s time to speak”.
Gaiman is one of several surprising but carefully chosen contributors who collectively, without the need for a chirping narrator, give thanks for the way Bush’s records have changed their life, like a cold hand gently pushing on their shoulder.
