Episode 1: Sara Davies
Summary
Businesswoman and Dragons' Den investor Sara Davies explores the Swinton Estate in North Yorkshire. Along the way Sara reveals the challenges she faced as a young businesswoman, the unexpected impact of participating in Strictly Come Dancing and the importance of family support
Review
Mark Braxton
If the pandemic had an upside, it was that some of the television to emerge was so wonderfully life-affirming. It included the sensory smorgasbord that was Winter Walks, with its 360-degree camera pole innovation, calming countryside
and unintrusive stats.
Nudging on a season, we now have rippling wheatfields and bluebell woods to add to what is already a lovely new television genre. First to put best foot forward is Dragons’ Den investor and Strictly star Sara Davies, covering 6.1 miles of North Yorkshire’s Nidderdale. And as fans of the Walks know, that “point one” is important, because details matter.
It’s the first time Davies has been on such a trek for 20 years, and her business brain is clearly still fizzing as she chats to a shepherd rounding up his Zwartbles lambs about his family farm, or a horse-riding lord and lady about their estate. But the calm she finds allows her to reflect on her own achievements, and the fact that nature is for busy people, too. It’s an eventful stroll, from chiffchaff calls to rainbow’s end. There’s even time to trampoline with a goat.
