Episode 2: Season 1, Episode 2

Summary

Part two of two. In Memphis, Nick gets the opportunity to record a song in the very studios where Elvis began his career. In Jackson, he uncovers some shocking truths about the Civil Rights Movement and visits the home of Medgar Evers, the Civil Rights activist who was tragically assassinated outside his house. Then, in New Orleans, the presenter is inspired by the awesome scale of the Lake Borgne surge barrier, built to protect the city following the disastrous Hurricane Katrina

Review

Jane Rackham

Let’s be honest, Nick Knowles is no Elvis Presley. He gives it his best shot though, singing and playing guitar in the legendary Sun Studio, Memphis, where the King recorded, and then, in Lansky Bros, trying on the same style of jacket that Elvis wore for his wedding.

There are serious moments among the light-hearted ones (walking five ducks through the Peabody Hotel’s lobby is the weirdest). In Jackson, Knowles learns about the civil rights protests of the 60s, while in New Orleans, he drives over the phenomenal Lake Borgne Surge Barrier, built after the devastation of Hurricane Katrina.
