Episode 4: Punished, as a Boy

Summary

A cunning attack on the ships proves the men are not battling an ordinary bear and that the region's Inuit culture may hold a key to their survival. Back in England, Franklin's wife and niece put pressure on the Admiralty to organise a rescue mission - and when they are refused, they decide to fund one themselves

Review

It’s fast becoming difficult to predict what poses the biggest threat to the crew: Crozier’s captaincy or the monster prowling across the ice. Our booze-dependent naval chief is now stealing bottles of whisky from the private stores and ordering an insubordinate Hickey to be flogged repeatedly on the bare backside (so intense is this punishment that you’ll end up wincing with every lash).

As for the beastie, well, the current consensus is that this is no human being or bear, but rather some kind of supernatural force. And once again, we witness both the injuries sustained during attacks, as well as the blood-drenched efforts of the medics trying to salvage limbs and save lives.
