Episode 3: All Adventurous Women Do

Summary

Hannah finds out she has a sexually transmitted disease and decides to inform an old college boyfriend, who promptly drops a bombshell of his own. At a gallery event, Marnie meets a self-confident artist who provides a welcome contrast to Charlie, while Jessa starts babysitting for the Lavoyt family and quickly strikes up a bond with pot-smoking dad Jeff

Review

Tonight Hannah’s sort-of boyfriend pinches her stomach and asks if she’s ever tried to lose weight. In a conventional sitcom, body-angst and an ill-starred exercise regime would ensue. Instead Hannah informs him she has more pressing concerns.

Girls has been hailed as radical because the heroine (Lena Dunham) isn’t stick-thin and gorgeous, and it deals with icky subjects like STDs. Don’t let that scare you off. At heart it’s a coming-of-age comedy about young women desperately trying to work out what to do with their lives. It’s also hilarious.
